The National Funeral Directors Association Recognizes ASD with the 2017 NFDA Innovation Award10/31/2017 Brookfield, Wis. – The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) presented ASD – Answering Service for Directors with the 2017 NFDA Innovation Award during the association’s International Convention & Expo, which is being held October 29-November 1 in Boston, Mass. The company was recognized for its Suicide-Telephone Operator Patch (STOP) System. When someone is feeling hopeless or alone, there is no telling who they might reach out to and, in some cases, they contact a funeral home. ASD created the STOP System to give its staff a way to seamlessly connect a caller with a suicide prevention hotline, ensuring these individuals receive the immediate counseling, guidance and support they need. Established in 2009, the NFDA Innovation Award recognizes and promotes creativity, innovation and excellence among funeral service suppliers and vendors. Earlier this year, funeral service vendors and suppliers had an opportunity to submit a product or service that became commercially available after January 1, 2016, for consideration in the 2017 NFDA Innovation Award competition. A distinguished panel of funeral directors evaluated the 26 entries and selected five finalists. The other finalists for the NFDA Innovation Award were: the “honoring service” church truck drape by Final Embrace LLC; the high gloss enamel customized photo urn by Funeral Home Gifts; BrioHOCL PrP by The Dodge Company; and the Wilbert ClearVault by Wilbert Funeral Services Inc. For more information about ASD’s STOP System and the products developed by the other finalists, visit nfda.org/voteinnovation. NFDA thanks its 2017 International Convention & Expo sponsors for their continued support:

How to Leverage Video on Facebook to Boost Engagement published first on YouTube via Tumblr How to Leverage Video on Facebook to Boost Engagement BROADVIEW, IL, October 26, 2017 – Wilbert Funeral Services, Inc. has released the Cremation Choices™ Volume 8 catalog, featuring over 300 cremation products including urns, mementos, jewelry, and urn vaults. Designed to make it easy for funeral professionals to help families with selections, Cremation Choices is organized by product type such as cultured marble, glass, wood, eco, and metal. High-quality photos illustrate intricate details that make cremation urns or other products special and personal. “Personalization is extremely important to many families today,” points out Michael Devaney, Merchandising Manager, Wilbert Funeral Services, Inc. “Seeing examples of urns engraved with names, dates and phrases – or even on some of our products an engraving of their loved one’s photo – makes an incredible impact on families and helps them understand how uniquely personal these products can be.” A tangible catalog that families can browse together at the funeral home is a powerful tool even in the face of online options. However, Cremation Choices Volume 8 is also available as a digital flipbook that can be embedded on a funeral home’s website. “Embedding the Cremation Choices catalog on your website is a great way to get families thinking about what they would want before they even come in for the arrangements conference,” Devaney says. “The embed code is readily available on the Funeral Professional section on wilbert.com and it can be on a funeral home’s own website within minutes.” Wilbert cremation products are also available on WilbertDirect.com, an ecommerce website exclusively for funeral professionals. To obtain copies of the Wilbert Cremation Choices Volume 8 catalog and for any assistance in cremation products or services, contact your local Wilbert Licensee. Wenig of Wenig Funeral Homes in Sheboygan Falls, Wis., to serve a one-year term as an at-large representative on the association’s Board of Directors. Wenig’s term of service begins immediately following the 2017 NFDA International Convention & Expo, October 29 through November 1 in Boston. Wenig is a first-generation funeral director who, after working for several funeral homes, purchased his own funeral establishment in Sheboygan Falls and Oostburg, Wis. Wenig have served in various leadership capacities on the local, state and national level, including as the state of Wisconsin’s representative to the NFDA Policy Board. In his candidate statement, Wenig said, “As a working funeral director, I understand the challenges and opportunities that exist in today’s current market and industry. This background has enabled me to provide an experienced perspective of other funeral professionals within our association. I have the perspective of the past, but am progressive by nature. I would be proud and honored to give back to my profession by serving on the NFDA Board of Directors.” Two at-large representatives to the NFDA Board of Directors are elected every year, each for a two-year term of service, so that the terms of the four at-large representatives are staggered. At-large representatives are elected by majority vote of the NFDA Policy Board. The special election was held to identify an individual to complete the second year of an unexpired two-year term of service resulting from the resignation of At-large Representative Peter B. “Butch” Mulhearn Jr. When an at-large representative position becomes vacant, the NFDA Bylaws provide for a special election at the next NFDA Policy Board meeting to fill the unexpired term. Accordingly, the NFDA Policy Board elected Wenig during their October 28 meeting, which was held in conjunction with the NFDA 2017 Convention in Boston. More information about Wenig can be found on the NFDA website, www.nfda.org/vote. The most popular […] via Tumblr First Before I Die ABQ Festival Attracts Big Crowds Fans and followers of the egregious Richard Sage aka Mark Kerby will be pleased to know that, since his release from prison, he has been living in straitened circumstances in Westcliff-on-Sea. In case you had forgotten, he was jailed for fraud. Only after he had been banged up did it become apparent that money handed over for prepaid funerals was missing. He has now been summoned to answer 3 charges of fraud (details not known to us) at Basildon Crown Court in a hearing slated for 4-8 December 2017. A little bit of adversity never dimmed the spirit of our exponent of worst practice in funeral service. The world may be against him but his dreams live on. Our spy on the spot, to whom we pay thanks, informs us that he has advanced plans to open up a funeral home in Westcliff. He is currently banned from holding any directorships. We think we have the name of the person under whose flag he will fly, together with the name and the address of the premises he will occupy, but we have been unable to verify these in a watertight way so we’ll keep mum for now. As soon as we know more, we’ll let you know. In addition to our own back catalogue on Mr Sage/Kerby, you may be interested in this.
