Andrew Greenbaum and Ian Felton have partnered to create Pom Pom, a company that makes art-based, functional pool toys. In other words, they are creating fun, satirical, and strange concept product designs that you you can actually use. After three years in the making, they’ve released a full-size pink inflatable coffin. Yeah, you read that right. The pool toy can withstand the rough ocean seas or a rowdy day at the pool. Once you’ve had enough human interaction, just shut the lid for some peace and quiet. Not only does the coffin block out pesky nieces and nephews, but it also blocks dangerous UV rays. Greenbaum and Felton are both industrial design veterans and have worked for many years in a variety of design roles before launching Pom Pom.
The guys recently commissioned a prototype of the pink coffin, which gave them the opportunity to share pictures. Pom Pom says we can expect more head-turning things from them in the future.
One of these pink coffins can be yours for $120. If you’re feeling extra spicy, you can buy a gold or clear coffin for $399. If you want to support Pom Pom’s ideas, but can’t fork over more than $100, they are offering custom designed pink coffin shirts for $35. Pom Pom is on Kickstarter through August 10 and so far they have raised close to $10,000 of their $60,000 goal. Founder Joel Schmidt was inspired while dealing with his 74-year-old father’s near death experience. He was joking with his father at his hospital bed-side about his funeral – making light of a difficult time.
This was the catalyzing moment for Glory Boats, an idea that Schmidt has turned into a business offering his products nation-wide. During his first year of operation he has shown his niche end-of-life product directly to his target audience at various outdoors shows. Now, when these people die, their loved ones will be coming to your funeral home asking for a custom boat casket. CBS News Reported that, “The boats, listed at $2,800, come in three different colors: woodland camo, marsh grass and pink camo. Schmidt explained that he wished he had the idea of the pink camo before his mother died several years ago. She was an avid lover of the outdoors, just like him and his father, he said. He described her as a tomboy who loved to fish and hunt, and thinks the pink camo model would have been a wonderful resting place for her.” Their mission is simple: “Celebrating the lives of outdoorsmen” Glory Boats is a family business run by Joel in partnership with his brother-in-law and son-in-law. They build each casket by had, welding the boats using metal from a local door company. Although the Glory Boats company is just getting started, it is receiving inquiries from people across the United States, Schmidt said. Want Glory Boat Caskets for your Showroom? Originally founded as Forethought Federal Savings Bank on July 29, 1998, ClearPoint is a company that boasts a rich heritage, solid financial strength, deep roots, and a singular focus on the death care industry. The company’s genesis can be traced to ClearPoint’s former parent, Forethought Financial Services, Inc. (“Forethought”), which was launched in 1985 to provide preneed financial products and services through its subsidiaries. The company initially provided preneed life insurance products, but later expanded its offerings to include trust products and services to meet the unserved needs of funeral and cemetery professionals nationwide. Over the years, both companies (Forethought Life Insurance Company and Forethought Federal Savings Bank) grew significantly, and came to be recognized as leading providers of various products and services to members of the death care industry. In 2014, Global Atlantic Financial Group acquired Forethought Financial Services and made the decision not to be involved with the funeral and cemetery trust business. This move created a “new” company with new ownership, new energy, new independence, and a new name – ClearPoint Federal Bank & Trust. ClearPoint started in six states with only a handful of customers, but now serves more than 2,400 funeral home and cemetery locations in 43 states and the District of Columbia. Since its inception, the ClearPoint team has grown, but it has always remained true to its original charter, and stayed dedicated solely to the funeral and cemetery industry. With more than 240 years of combined experience in death care related service, the team offers both financial expertise, and an unwavering passion for serving funeral and cemetery professionals. ClearPoint is proud to provide clients with a team of talented and proactive professionals who are always ready to serve. “It is such a privilege to be surrounded by so many wonderful team members, customers, and industry professionals who have been an integral part of our success. At this milestone in our history, we want to first recognize and thank our customers for their incredible dedication to serving their client families with care, compassion, and respect,” commented ClearPoint CEO and President, David deGorter. “We are also grateful for our customers’ continued support and for the valuable feedback they have provided us over the years. Additionally, I would like to thank the ClearPoint team for their commitment, professionalism, and passion for building a world class company. The support of our customers and the dedication of our team have shaped who we are today.” As a forward-thinking company that anticipates its customers’ needs, ClearPoint’s vision for the future is to expand its commitment by offering other financial products and services to members of the death care industry. Today, the company offers Trust and Recordkeeping Services, Investment Management Services, as well as Regulatory and Compliance expertise. The company plans to expand its product portfolio to include additional banking and financial services that are expressly designed for members of the death care industry. “In the future, I foresee a company that is recognized as ‘The Bank’ for funeral and cemetery businesses. I envision a company that continues to offer an exceptional customer experience, delivers products and services designed to meet our client’s unique needs, and provides technology solutions that help our clients save time and money,” added deGorter. ClearPoint Federal Bank & Trust is a federally chartered savings bank based in Batesville, Indiana. ClearPoint is dedicated solely to the death care industry. Independently owned and operated, ClearPoint has provided customized funeral home and cemetery trust and related services since 1998, which are now available in more than 43 states and the District of Columbia. Back in April last year, we exposed the condition of the conveniences at Honor Oak Crematorium in South East London – peeling paint, a toilet held together by chewing gum and floors covered in used tissue paper.
Earlier this year, I was delighted to be invited back to Honor Oak to see, not only the newly refurbished conveniences, but the refurbished crematorium as a whole. The chapel, waiting room, memorial rooms and gardens have all been renovated, making the most of a calming light blue and grey colour scheme throughout. There’s even Dyson air blade hand dryers.
Honor Oak is an Italianate crematorium, built in 1939, with a chimney that resembles the cathedral campanile at Venice. It was designed by Borough Architect William Bell and Maurice Webb, son of Sir Aston Webb, whose company had designed the adjoining Camberwell New Cemetery. The crematoria around South East London mostly and unusually have descending catafalques, and Honor Oak is no exception.
Just don’t lean any floral tributes against the base of the catafalque before it descends and the lid meets the floor. I learnt that the hard way.

The company is partnering with My Tribute Gift Foundation, an established nonprofit organization that is well recognized in the funeral industry and respected by charitable organizations. “Today’s funeral home websites serve as a command center for information and activities related to a loved one’s passing, including expressions of support and sympathy,” said Troy Turner, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Batesville. “Through our partnership with My Tribute Gift Foundation, we are able to provide a secure, convenient way for consumers to make donations to a designated charity or contribute directly to a family’s funeral expenses.” This integration provides benefits to families and funeral directors, including:
“We share Batesville’s commitment to helping families and are honored to partner with them in bringing My Tribute Gift donation and funding offerings to consumers across the U.S. and Canada,” said Sam Baxter, managing director of My Tribute Gift Foundation. Memorial donations are not new. It is quite common for a family to designate a charitable organization to receive donations in honor of their loved one. But until recently, individuals were left to follow-up by mailing in a check and then wait to receive a confirmation from the organization. Funeral directors often found themselves in the middle, tracking down contact information for specific charities before the service and responding to calls from members of the community weeks later to verify where to send donations. “Technology has changed that,” explains Turner. “Using digital connections that are familiar and comfortable for today’s consumers, the funeral home can facilitate the entire donation process through a simple integration that is already built into their website – without having to take on added responsibilities,” said Turner. Similar to other expressions of sympathy – cards, flowers and guest books – the option to make a memorial donation or contribute funds to help cover funeral expenses is presented with the obituary or service information. Both features can be activated by the funeral director on a case-by-case basis, according to the family’s preferences. All collections, credit card authorizations, acknowledgements, and financial reports are handled by My Tribute Gift, with no involvement by the funeral home. While crowdfunding has become a popular way for people to rally around an individual or family in times of crisis, there have been concerns about the legitimacy of requests, who the money is going to and how it’s being used. Turner said Batesville paid close attention to the challenges funeral directors and families experienced with early applications and used those insights to help guide its offering. “Our solution has a singular focus – providing a dignified solution for friends and family members to make financial donations to help offset the family’s funeral expenses, when that support is needed,” explains Turner, “and a seamless transfer of funds to the funeral home when that process is complete.” For example, each campaign has a target that is set by the funeral director and the family based on the actual cost of the funeral. The campaign automatically closes once that target is achieved, and funds are transferred directly by My Tribute Gift to the funeral home as payment. This gives donors and funeral directors absolute assurance that their contributions will go toward the funeral expenses. The memorial donations feature was added to Batesville Web Pro websites in July, and funeral funding will launch in August. Both features are provided at no additional charge to Batesville website customers. For more information or a tutorial on how to use these features, call the Batesville Technology Solutions team at 877.287.8661 or send an email to [email protected].
